Moving the shaker up and down makes the seeds strike alternately against the taut weave and the hard gourd base, producing two characteristic tones: a soft, low sound from the weave and a bright, sharp accent from the gourd base. At a height of approx. 23 cm, the instrument sits comfortably in the hand and allows for precise control.
